LOCAL COOKING CLASSES! Plus, 10% Off Anything in Store the Day of Class!

Have you ever been in the store called "For Your Kitchen," located in the Newgate Mall? I don't know about you, but I could spend hours in there, not to mention a whole lot of money (if I had it!)!  Sister Hair brought a GREAT opportunity to my attention today, that I just had to share! "For Your Kitchen" has cooking classes, where they teach a wide variety of things. There are even classes for your kids to take, so they can get a jump start on learning cooking basics! And if your kids already love to cook, they have a kids/teen cookoff you can sign up for (information on their website). Here are some of the upcoming classes for the month of October, and I am also going to post the link to where you can see the rest of the classes offered up through the first of the year. Sign up right away, because I hear they fill up quickly! Also, you get 10% OFF of everything in the store the day of your class!

October Classes:

October 1st, Friday, 6:30 pm--Sourdough Basics – Chris Stokes

Do you love sourdough but haven’t had success in making it?  Well this class is for YOU!  Chris is an expert in sourdough and believe it or not, it’s very easy to do with the right ingredients!  He’ll teach us  bread, waffles and sourdough pancakes, YUM!  You will also go home with FREE San Francisco sourdough starter!  Hurry, this class will fill up fast! $25.00

October 2nd, Saturday, 6-8pm--LADIES NIGHT! FREE

Bring you and your girlfriends for a ladies night out!  We’ll have treats, free drawings every 15 minutes for items in the store, demonstrations and free classes! Our way of saying ladies are SPECIAL!!

October 5th, Tuesday, 6:30pm--SUSHI – Hands On! – Chef Otsuji (www.sushisurfer.com)

Chef Otsuji will be teaching a hands on Sushi Class at For your kitchen.  We provide all the necessary tools and materials to make sushi.  At this class we'll be making Unagi Maki (Broiled Eel rolls), Spicy Tuna, Salmon and Shrimp Tempura rolls.  We will be focusing on making Te maki sushi (hand rolls), Ura maki (inside out rolls), and Futo maki (fat rolls).  $40

October 6th, Wednesday, 6:30pm--Fall Soups – Featuring Kuhn Rikon Pressure Cookers

We will be teaching Potato Corn Chowder, Flavorful Chili, Creamy Vegetable Soup, & Split Pea!  Make sure not to miss this wonderful class as we will teach how to make wonderful soup, and also the benefits of using a safe, fast, efficient pressure cooker.  This will be one of the best classes you will come to. $10

October 7th, Thursday, 6:30pm--Cooking with Essential Oils – Chef Marie

This unique class is cooking with essential oils rather than extracts.  You won’t believe the difference in taste!  Come learn about using pure oils in cooking, which your family will love!  We’ll be cooking (and eating!) from a variety of foods.  Chef Marie is a presenter at this year’s Taste of Home Show, so we’re glad to snag her!$10

October 9th, Saturday, 6:30pm--Time for TAMALES!- Gina Betancourt

Just in time for cold fall nights, learn the techniques for authentic mexican tamales. Also homemade refried beans! Raised in Mexico, Gina is a specialist in Mexican Cuisine.  You’ll love her and her class!  More classes from her coming up late spring and summer… Limited space. $20

October 16th, Saturday, 6:30 pm--Trick or Treat? Holiday Chocolates – Debbie Everett

Our last chocolate class was such a success, we’ve brought Debbie back for more!  Come learn the secrets of carmel with other goulish treats for Halloween, along with fun ideas for holiday chocolates.  Price includes one pound of our wonderful chocolate free!  Lots of taste testing and hands on dipping will give you the confidence to do this at home! $20

October 19th, Tuesday, 6:30 pm--ADVANCED SUSHI! – Hands On! – Chef Otsuji (www.sushisurfer.com)

Chef Otsuji will be teaching a hands on Sushi Class at For your kitchen.  We provide all the necessary tools and materials to make sushi.  This class is for the hard core sushi lover

In this advanced sushi class we will explore breaking down whole salmon, cutting fish, sashimi platting, nigiri sushi, temari sushi (Ball sushi) and gunkan maki (battle ship sushi). $55

October 20th, Wednesday, 6:30pm--Artisan Breads – Ben Rowley (Local Artisan Bread Expert)

This popular class fills in a hurry so be sure and sign up early!  Ben will teach the basics of artisan bread making.  Great on their own but this class will not stop at a little bread making.  We will do some bread dipping and we will also teach some great spreads. Come and enjoy a wonderful night of bread, dips and spreads! $15

October 22nd, Friday, 6:30pm--Crepes For All Occasions

Learn how fun and entertaining making crepes can be!  Great for dinners, desserts, entertaining etc…  We will make a dinner and a dessert crepe. $15

October 23rd, Saturday, 6:30 pm--Bread Basics: Whole Wheat Deliciousness

Whole Wheat Bread; Whole Wheat Cinnamon Rolls; Whole Wheat Pizza.  Come & learn how to make soft, delicious whole wheat bread that will have you coming back for more. $10

October 23rd, Saturday, 6:30 pm--Chile Rellenos- Gina Betancourt

Gina grew up in northern Mexico and has wonderful recipes from that area.  Come join us as she demonstrates this famous Mexican dish.  Her classes fill up fast due to her expertise and fun personality!  Come enjoy eating the chile rellenos with spanish rice, YUMMY!!  $15

October 27th, Wednesday, 6:30pm--Homemade Spudnuts

Never had a spudnut?  Think of it as a moist doughnut.  I think they are terrific, I am not sure why spudnut shops ever went out of business.  This is probably my favorite dessert, simple to make anyone can do it.  Come to eat, come to learn, just come on in and enjoy one of my favorite desserts. $10


October 30th, Saturday, 12:30pm--Culinary Kids☺ – Ethinic Cuisine - German

Your child is sure to love the holiday kids’ classes that we are having.  Kids will be more involved and will each have some goodies to take home!  Don’t let your child miss this class.  Sign up early, these classes sell out quickly.$15
