Ruffled Pants Tutorial--so cute!
These cute ruffled pants are adorable! A great project, I must say! I haven't looked anywhere else, but I know you can get this ruffled fabric at Ruffled Fabric.com
Supplies: Ruffled Fabric [1 yard] and elastic [1 to 1 1/2" wide]
1-Making sure the bottom of your fabric is evenly cut, lining up the ruffles, cut two pieces on the fold, using inside out leggings as a guide, including 1/2" extra for seam allowance.
2-I didn't taper the bottom of the leg, and I cropped mine as well. [No need to hem it, yay!]
3-Open up both pieces, making sure all the ruffles are down, put right sides together [not shown] and stitch with a slight zig-zag from the waist to the crotch on both sides, as shown in the photo.
4-Pull the two seams together and stitch around the length of the legs, making sure ruffles match and are all facing down
5-Stretch a length of elastic around child's waist. You want it snug. Overlap ends and zig-zag stitch.
6-Pin elastic on the inside [the wrong side], overlapping 1/4". You'll have to stretch the elastic a little bit to make it fit.
7-Zig-zag along the overlapped portion of the fabric.
8-Turn elastic under and stitch in the seam across the length of the elastic in front and back to keep the elastic down.
Extreme Couponing on TLC Tonight!
A few months ago, a bunch of us witnessed a pilot of a new TLC series called Extreme Couponing. They featured 3 couponers who scored some pretty extreme items for cheap. One person purchased 2,000 boxes of Total Cereal for FREE with his coupons.
Tonight at 6pm MST, the series Premiere of Extreme Couponing will air. (Check for your time) And I personally think it is going to be interesting to see what these couponers do, if they follow the rules or bend them, what in the world they do with WAY too much food and what kind of couponing personalities they have.
Obviously everyone has their concerns about this show. What kind of impact is it having on manufacturers after seeing extreme couponers? Does it show was REAL couponers are all about? Or, is it all just a reality TV show and just needs to be seen as that?
My opinion is that we will see a little backlash from companies- depending on what type of extreme things these couponers do. I guess it all just depends on how extreme they get. Real couponers purchase items their family NEEDS, and a few extra to have in their stockpile so they never have to pay full price again. Purchasing 200 deodorants is not what you should be doing- unless you are doing a Military Care Package Project.
Things expire, so I never personally buy more than my family can use during the expiration period. It doesn’t make sense to do so. So, although I have a pretty great stockpile, you will NEVER see me have one like the Extreme Couponers.
What are your thoughts? Excited as I am to see the show air tonight? I’ve set my DVR. So I’m crossing my fingers that we will have a few “good examples” in the bunch. Hopefully it didn’t get spun too much to just be a great TV show!

Utah: Scout Food Drive Today! Donate your Extra Items!
It is time to donate your stockpile items to the Scouts. Today, they will be coming by in neighborhoods to pick up non-perishible food items to donate to Food Shelters and Food Banks.
Hopefully they have already brought by a bag for you to donate in. Although, I usually have so many items to share I fill a few bags for them to take.
Don’t miss this opportunity to give! You don’t even have to drive the food to your food bank. They are doing all of the hard work for you!

Free CPR Training from the Red Cross Tomorrow!
Over 100 Red Cross locations across the country will be participating in Free CPR Training Classes on March 19th! The shortened class will go over the basics of hand-only CPR, treatment of shock and taking care of wounds.
Check to see if your location is participating and then you can find out which classes and times are available for you. I think everyone should know how to do CPR. You just never know when you will need it. So, this could be a good freebie class to mark on your calendars!

Send your Expired Coupons Overseas to our Military Families!
I wanted to re-post this for all of those who are new and didn’t know you can donate your expired coupons to Military Families.
If you didn’t know, Military Families that are stationed overseas can use coupons up to 6 months after the expiration date! So, instead of just tossing our expired coupons, let’s help out our military families!
There is an extensive list of overseas bases that need our coupons. And, periodically they change, depending on the need of the families. So, the best way for you to know which bases are still accepting coupons is to check out Grocery Saving Tips. They update the list monthly. So your coupons will always be going to the right place!
A few tips:
- Cut all of your coupons you will be sending. It will cut down on shipping costs.
- Divide coupons into “Non- Food” and “Food” Categories. Put them in two separate plastic baggies. Pet food is considered a non-food item.
- They can only use regular Manufacturer coupons. So don’t send store coupons of any sort.
- Send your coupons out quickly after they expire. If your coupons are expired longer than 2 months, don’t send them.
You can click the link above to find a list of addresses overseas that are currently accepting coupons. Or, Darlene is actually stationed in Turkey and is in charge of their coupon program there. If you want to send your coupons to her:
COUPON PROGRAM
39FSS/FSFR
Unit 7505, Box 175
APO, AE 09824
For this mailing address, she said it would be helpful if you could sort the coupons into cateogories and put them in baggies when you ship them. Baby, cleaning, personal hygeniene and so forth. And, she Thanks you in advance! If you put a little note inside your package with your email address, she said she would try to let you know when they arrive!

Coupon Policies are Your Friends!
Whether you are a new couponer or a veteran, it is very important to remember to have your Coupon Policies with you EVERY time you shop!
Not all cashiers are informed of the couponing policies of their store. And most likely, they don't use coupons either. So, it is best for you to be informed of your store's policies before you go shopping each week. That way, if you do run into a cashier that is mis-informed, you can help educate them in a nice way.
If I could give one piece of advice for every couponer, it would be to have your Coupon Policy with you at all times! I have had so many readers email me about experiences they have had with cashiers and/or managers telling them they couldn't accept a coupon. But if they would have had their coupon policy, they could have shown that and been able to use their coupon without a problem.
Here are a few coupon policies to print out:
Wal-Mart Coupon Policy
Target Coupon Policy
Rite Aid Coupon Policy
Walgreens Coupon Policy
This little step will help you have less problems when checking out and give you a more pleasant couponing experience!

How to Cut and De-Seed a Pomegranate
I LOVE POMEGRANATES, but I hate picking the seeds out of them. I finally learned how to seed them, and it has changed my hatred toward seeding them! I thought I would put a post on how to cut them to eat them the most efficiently. Because we all know Pomegranates are GREAT for us, while high in anti-oxidants. This time of year with so much sickness going around, we all could use as much as we could get. Pomegranates show up in stores right about now, and I know a lot of people who don't buy them because they have no idea what to do with them. If that's you, then I challenge you to pick one up next time you're at the store and just eat it for fun! If you've never tried one, basically you break it open and pull out the little seeds (called arils) that are surrounded in a translucent, ruby colored coating that bursts with juice when you eat it. Now you can just cut the thing in half and have at it, but you might end up with bright red juice all over you. Here's some easy steps to what I've found to be the easiest and cleanest way to handle a pomegranate
How to Cut and De-Seed a Pomegranate
1. Cut the top
Take a sharp knife (serrated works best) and slice off the top of the pomegranate, just below the stem. You'll see there are distinct sections:
2. Score the skin
Using those segments as your guideline, just score the outer skin of the pomegranate, from top to bottom. You don't want or need to cut all the way through the fruit, just the skin.
3. Break apart
Now you can easily break the segments apart with your fingers. Since you didn't cut all the way through the fruit, all of the arils should be in tact and it shouldn't be too messy. Aren't those gorgeous?
4. Remove the seeds
The fleshy seeds will easily come out with your fingers. Just bend back the skin and pull them out with your hands. Or as many mentioned in the comments you can just whack the back with a wooden spoon and they fall out easily as well.
I like to use the water method. Fill a medium sized bowl with water and remove the seeds right over the bowl- or even under the water. The seeds will fall to the bottom and any white parts will float to the top. Any juice that comes out will go straight in the water and wash off.
5. Strain
Remove any white pith that is floating in the water and discard. Pour the remaining contents of the bowl into a strainer over the sink.
Give them a quick rinse with cold water and they're all ready to eat! Honestly, my favorite way to eat them is just like this: Plain, with my fingers. But you can also think of them as sprinkles of sorts!
They're delicious sprinkled into salads, especially in place of recipes that use dried cranberries. Try them in salads or wraps. They also work great sprinkled on top of desserts. Try sprinkling on top of your whipped cream over pumpkin or apple pie, or even on ice cream! Since Pomegranates are so trendy right now you can find tons of recipes on the internet for both sweet and savory dishes.
How Top Pick a Ripe Pomegranate: Unlike fruits such as bananas and mangoes that are picked when unripened, pomegranates aren't picked until they're ripe and ready to eat, so technically if it's in the store, it should be ripe. That being said, sometimes you get ones that are better than others. Definitely feel for weight, a heavier fruit means the more juice inside. Also avoid any fruits that are shriveled, bruised, or have super soft spots.
Freezer Instructions: Lay seeds in a single layer on a flat plate or baking sheet. Place in freezer 1-2 hours. When completely frozen, place in freezer safe container or zip top bag. Frozen seeds are especially great added to smoothies for an icy nutrient boost!
Juicing Instructions (From pomegranates.org)
It will take 2-3 Pomegranates to yield about 1 C juice
Juicer Method:
Cut the fresh pomegranate in half as you would a grapefruit. We recommend using a hand-press juicer to juice a pomegranate. If you use an electric juicer, take care not to juice the membrane, so that the juice remains sweet. Strain the juice through a cheesecloth-lined strainer or sieve. Caution, pomegranate juice stains.
Blender Method:
Place 1-1/2 to 2 cups seeds in a blender; blend until liquefied.
Pour through a cheesecloth-lined strainer or sieve. Caution, pomegranate juice stains.
Rolling Method:
On a hard surface, press the palm of your hand against a pomegranate and gently roll to break all of the seeds inside (crackling stops when all seeds have broken open). Pierce the rind and squeeze out juice or poke in a straw and press to release juice. Caution, pomegranate juice stains. NOTE: Rolling can be done inside a plastic bag to contain juice that leaks through the skin.
Nutrition Information: Pomegranates are loaded with nutrients and are a great source of fiber!

Get Money For Your Gift Cards
Plastic Jungle: Discounts on Gift Cards!
I just wanted to let all of you know about a great little site. I'm sure many of us received Gift Cards for Christmas. Chances are you don't like the store you got a gift card from, or you won't use it. Or, maybe you are just tight on cash!
There is a cool place called Plastic Jungle. They will buy your Gift Cards from you and pay you cash. Or, if you are in the market to buy a Gift Card, you can buy it for less than the amount on the card. It's a pretty sweet deal!
***TIP: One of the best ways to save money is to buy a discounted Gift Card and then stack coupons on top of it. Gift Cards are just like cash. For example, you can buy Gift Cards for Up To 30% off and then use in-store or online coupon codes. You can pay $70 for a $100 Gift Card and automatically save $30! Plus, whatever coupon code discount you had too! Awesome Right? Even the smaller gift cards you can pay $24 for a $30 Gift Card.
This is what I would recommend. Think of places you like to eat out or places you shop regularly. Check out Plastic Jungle and see if they have a discount gift card. If they do, then you can automatically save a ton of money on the cost of eating out or shopping where you already would have. Then, use coupons I post on the site, or coupon codes online and get an even better price. It may take a little planning in advance, but you can then save money on Date Nights and other outings with your family. Just because you are saving money does not mean you cannot go out still! Go to Plastic Jungle to check it out.
