For September our Visiting Teaching Message is on “Our Responsibility to Nurture the Rising Generation”
This is a great message...one that I thoroughly enjoyed preparing. After recently serving in the Young Women, I have realized more than ever how much we need to remember our Youth of today and teach them all they need to know so they will be able to face what lies ahead. I like a quote that President Gordon B. Hinckley stated: “Never forget that these little ones are the sons and daughters of God and that yours is a custodial relationship to them, that he was a parent before you were parents and that he has not relinquished His parental rights or interest in these His little ones… Rear your little in love, in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Take care of your little ones. Welcome them into your homes, and nurture and love them with all your hearts. They may do, in the years that come, some things you would not want to do, but be patient, be patient. You have not failed as long as you have tried (July 1997).
I think some times if we could only just remember that they are God Children and we are just helping him out in raising them, would we look at them differently, would we try harder to teach them, would we speak a little kinder and be better parents?
We all love homemade bread; well just like homemade bread nourishes us we too need to be careful on how we "rise" this generation today, we need to be careful not to add very hot water and not too much cold water or they will not rise in the best manner that they could. But like Pres. Hinckley stated; you have not failed as long as you have tried. How nice to know we can keep trying until we get it right, we can keep on working on getting that youth (yeast) to rise just right, that we haven’t failed until the day we stop trying.
Our Heavenly Father knew it would be hard to raise this generation in the world today and how thankful we are that he has made a plan for us to follow and through our living Prophets today that guide us and warn us along they. They knew it would not be easy and that the things of the world would be come stronger around us and so our wonderful prophet Pres. Hinckley brought forth the “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” to help us along the way in nurturing our rising generation.
Let us not forget they are watching us and listen to every word we make. We need to remember to watch how we treat and speak of our marriage and family, we are setting the example for them, are our words the same as our actions? Please don’t forget you are not alone, your Heavenly Father is always there to help guide you, our Prophets are always there guiding, warning us along the way, we have each other to learn from and get support and Please Remember don’t ever give up on our Youth, parents can not do this alone we need everyone’s help!
These two thoughts you could make a cute little note or tag to attach to some homemade or fresh bread:
"Without nurturing, our Rising Generation could be in danger.
Just like in Mosiah 26, many youth didn't believe the traditions of
their fathers and became a separate people as to their Faith. Our
Rising Generation could be led away if they don't understand their
part in Heavenly Father's Plan." --Julie B. Beck.
-or-
Just like bread that rise and nurture us, we need to be careful not to let out love and nurture go flat. Don't use hot water or too much cold or they won't rise the way they should...
Another cute idea (in addition to the bread) is to give a cute tag you've typed up:
"Reserved by the Lord for this time, Rising Generation must now be preserved...and prepared for their special moments in human history." --Elder Neal A. Maxwell
